GFOA National Scholarships
GFOA of the United States and Canada Advanced Government Finance Institute Scholarship
GFOAz awards two full tuition scholarships to GFOAz Active members to attend the Advanced Government Finance Institute (AGFI) in Madison, Wisconsin. The scholarship covers the enrollment fee for the five-day program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The enrollment fee covers tuition, housing and meals at Institute facilities, the student notebook, and sponsored activities. The scholarship recipient will be responsible for his or her own travel costs.

The Institute's intensive program is designed especially for state/provincial and local government finance professionals who are at or near the top of their government's organizational structure. The scholarship provides an opportunity for Arizona finance professionals to attend the Institute and will be awarded to a government finance official who has shown high promise for an outstanding career in public finance. To be eligible, a candidate must 1) currently hold a position in local or state/provincial government finance in Arizona and 2) be an Active participating member of GFOAz.

The intensive program is held every other year. The next program will take place summer 2017. The recipient will be selected the GFOAz Board of Directors on the basis of demonstrated creativity, dedication to the profession, and level of involvement in GFOAz. We hope you will take advantage of this program and apply to attend this highly exclusive professional development opportunity.
GFOAz Student Internship and Scholarship Program
The GFOAz Scholarship and Internship Program was created in 2015 and will honor Arizona students who aspire to a career in public finance. One GFOAz scholarship/internship will be awarded to an incoming junior or senior enrolled at Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona.

To be eligible, students must be working on an accounting, finance, economics, business or business-related major. Additional criteria for eligibility are listed in the attached Student Scholarship/Internship Information and application form. Applications are due in October. In addition to submitting a complete application, students may also be interviewed by a GFOAz Scholarship Committee. GFOAz will notify the student selected for its scholarship/internship award in November.

The GFOAz scholar will have the opportunity to interview participating cities, towns and counties and select their preferred internship location. Arizona cities, towns and counties with a population of less than 300,000 may apply to participate in the internship program. Participating or host entities are expected to provide the student intern with a broad range of experience in the finance department. Responsibilities of the local government host are listed in the attached host city, town and county information. Proposals to host interns are due in October.

The GFOAz Scholarship/Internship Program includes a cash award and a summer internship at an Arizona city, town or county. The scholarship will be awarded to one student at the GFOAz Winter Conference in Prescott, Arizona in February.
